Hair Identification Lab

1.  Pull one hair from your head and measure its length.  Record length and color in the table.

2.  Make a wet mount of your hair by putting by putting the tip and the root in the water.  Cover with a cover slip.

3.  Look at your hair under the microscope.  Describe and draw it in the table.

4.  Look at the hair of another student and record your observations in the table.  Answer questions 1-4 of "What did I discover?" on p.110.

5.  READ p.112-115 "Identified by a Hair" and answer the "What does it mean?" questions at the end of the handout.

6.  Look at prepared slides of  7 different nonhuman mammal hairs.  Record all observations in the table. 

7.  Answer questions 5-8 of "What did I discover?" on p. 110-111.
