Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is ready for the New Year.

If possible, can you send in a baby picture of your child by Friday?  We will be making time lines and writing about how we have changed over the years.  You will be getting the picture back in a few weeks.  Please do not send in a picture over a 4x5.  Large pictures will not work for our project.  Thanks.

This week we are working on the different vowel sounds of y.  In our spelling words this week, y sounds like long e and i.  They are attached.

The homework for this week is also attached.  Due tomorrow are ten words that contain y in any form; yell, baby, cry…  The math sheet is due on Thursday.  Friday’s homework is different this week and will continue to be for the rest of the year.  Attached is a sheet with four fix-it sentences on it.  These are sentences that contain errors; capitalization, punctuation, spelling…  Your child’s job is to rewrite the sentence correctly below the incorrect one.  We will be practicing this in class today so; your child should know what to do.

This week also begins the winter IRI testing (Idaho Reading Indicator).  The first grades will probably be tested next week.  When we receive the scores, I will send them home to you.

Have a great week.

                                                                                                                Thank you,

                                                                                                                Karrie Roberts

P.S.  Book orders are due back by next Tuesday, Jan. 15th.
