Hello
I am very pleased to introduce myself to you. I have been teaching in Lake Pend Oreille School District for over 24 years. My original degree from Washington State University (GO COUGS!) is in Biology, with a specialty in cell biology and genetics. I earned my teaching certification from Eastern Washington University (GO EAGS!). I returned to WSU the summer after my first year of teaching to become fully certified in Math. I have recently obtained my Master of Secondary Education degree from University of Idaho.
In 2000-2001, I was honored to become a J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation Technology Fellow. I found helping teachers in the entire region integrate technology into their classrooms very rewarding. I also participate in the follow up Equipping the Best project by using the laptop lab and other equipment the Foundation gave to me.
I am certainly enjoying joining SMS, and I like teaching math all day. In my other job, I was split half science, half math. My husband Tim teaches Social Studies in Red House, and Dick Ross, the Industrial Arts teacher here at SMS is my brother in law.
So, what is the deal with the Fish? At my previous school, I learned an interaction method based on the Pike Place Fish Market counter men. I have found it very helpful. SO, to remind myself of the 4 basics of Fish, I use fish pictures often.
There may be a few rats on my web pages. The rats came from a prank the entire Blue house played upon me earlier this year (06-07). The rats remind me of the fun students can have, and should have, in school. A positive learning climate makes for better initial learning, retention and students use higher order thinking skills.
In 07-08, we have decided to use shoes as a theme. So you may see them on my web pages. I am sure something else, like the rat attack 06, will turn up this year, and show up on my lesson plans.
