Once
each quarter, students will bring home a progress report showing the
assignments we have completed and their scores.
We will be keeping a portfolio in class for their major assignments (they
bring the portfolio home at the end of the year).
Please come in to view the portfolio whenever you can! You may also
view student grades at any time using the
SMS Pass System.

For Accelerated Reading this year,
students will need to read
and test on two fiction and two non-fiction books each quarter, give brief
“book talks” occasionally, and participate in other AR novel assignments.
(A book of 10 or more points counts as two books.)
Students will set reading point goals based on their own reading level. |
|
There are four main
themes we will be covering in the eighth grade, one theme for each quarter.
Each quarter we will read a class novel which relates to that theme. This
year our themes are: Coming to
America
(True Confessions of
Charlotte Doyle/Lord Kirkle's Money),
Alaska
and the Klondike Gold
Rush (Call of the Wild/Other Northwest Novels), the Civil War and Slavery (Nightjohn), and World War II
(Diary of Anne Frank/Eleanor's Story). We’ll develop writing, reading, speaking
and listening projects around these themes to practice and improve their skills.
